Rules

The following rules are to be acknowledged and respected by everyone entering The Badlands. By signing a release of liability and waiver, you are agreeing that you understand and agree to obey all these rules.

1. EVERYONE (driver/rider/passenger/spectator) must sign a waiver and check-in with a VALID ID upon arrival, every visit. If you do not check-in or sign a waiver, you are trespassing.

2. MINORS - EVERYONE under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian to enter. Any minor not accompanied by parent/legal guardian must have signed, NOTARIZED minor waivers, FILLED OUT PRIOR to arrival (found on www.badlandsoffroad.com) to be allowed entrance. NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. ETIQUETTE - Everyone must use proper trail etiquette and be courteous to others. SHIRT and closed toed shoes and proper riding attire is required to ride. Must be dressed to enter the Pro Shop. Please be courteous to the staff.

4. FLAGS - All 4-wheel vehicles must display an ORANGE SAFETY FLAG at least two feet above the highest point of the vehicle (not just the roof). ATVs must have the flag at least two feet ABOVE the helmet while STANDING on the footpegs. Children's machines must have the standard 6' pole.

5. SEATBELTS are to be worn while on Badlands property. Infants and children must be restrained in appropriate child safety seats. All SUVs must have the following: proper roll-over protection (i.e. roll bar, roof) to include passengers, a battery tie down (no bungee cords), seatbelt/safety restraint for everyone in the vehicle, tow point(s), a trash bag for liquid spills, and a flag. If you aren't sure about your vehicle, please contact the Badlands main office.

6. HELMETS must be worn while moving on ATVs and dirt bikes. Minors (under 18) in side-by-sides must wear helmets (this is State law). Anyone over 18 in a side-by-side can use own judgment. All helmets MUST be D.O.T. approved.

7. NO ALCOHOL, illegal drugs, firearms, or weapons are allowed on Badlands property. No person may be under the influence of alcohol or any substances. Vehicles and coolers will be checked prior to entering the park. Violators will have items confiscated and may be subject to expulsion. You see someone violating, please inform staff right away.

8. INSURANCE - You are riding with others. All machines and vehicles must be insured.

9. TOW POINTS - SUV’s/4x4’s must have at least one tow point (example: tow hook or receiver hitch.) Front and rear tow points are mandatory for harder trails along with a winch and locker.

10. SPEED LIMIT for everyone is 5 mph (or 1st gear), no dust, in the parking areas and on all main and two-way roads. Vehicles/ machines must always be in your control. Parking lot is for parking, no tricks, horseplay, drifting wheelies, etc.

11. TRAILS are 2-way use. No blind jumping. Ride with caution. Think of others, you are not alone. Travel ONLY where motorized vehicles are permitted. Do not blaze a new trail. Do not ride in a farm field. You will be prosecuted by the field owner. Do not cross roped boundaries for any reason.

12. TREAD LIGHTLY. Use tree saver straps, no cable directly to a tree, the correct size tree, etc. No one is allowed to cut down a tree for any reason. Cross streams only at designated crossings. Avoid lake and swamp areas.

13. TRASH - Pack In/Pack Out. DO NOT LEAVE TRASH! Please help us keep the Badlands property clean. See trash, pick it up.

14. NO DOUBLE RIDING on ATVs unless the machine is built for two-passengers by the manufacturer. This includes all roads. Check your owners manual for specifications. No double riding on dirt bikes.

15. VEHICLE/MACHINES - All SUVs/Vehicles must be 4-wheel drive. No two-wheel drive vehicles. SAND RAILS, dune buggies and 2WD powered by a car engine are NOT permitted. Go-carts ARE permitted. If your machine is questionable, please contact the Badlands main office.

16. AFTER DUSK RIDING- MUST have fully working headlights and tail lights. Check before it gets dark. Must also have quiet exhaust.

17. CLOSING - No one is permitted past the entrance gate 30 minutes prior to close of the park. No exceptions.

These rules are taken very seriously. Participants who disregard the rules of The Badlands, or pose a safety threat to themselves or others, will at minimum be ejected from the Park without a refund and may be suspended from future visits to The Badlands. In addition to ejection or suspension, the following fines may be assessed:

  • $50 per vehicle/machine for every 30 minutes you are late to exit the Park through the gate.
  • Please note our closing time for each day. Our staff would like to go home at the end of their workday just like you.
  • $50 minimum fine for littering anywhere on The Badlands property.
  • $50 fine for disorderly conduct.
  • Up to $200 recovery fee. Please come prepared.

Reminders regarding Minors!

  • No one under the age of 18 is permitted to check-in without a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult present on site all day.
  • No one can check-in someone else's child without the following forms notarized and signed: Consent Form, Liability Waiver, and Medical Info. (This includes stepparents unless you are the legal guardian.)
  • Minor Forms can be downloaded from our website. If you are unable to download and print the forms, contact The Badlands office ((765) 762-2981) and we will fax or US mail you the forms.
